Prompting
Clear instructions are key to getting the most out of Yoink AI. This page covers how to write effective prompts and add additional context for more complex tasks.
Giving Instructions
To give an instruction, type a clear and concise command into the input box. Yoink automatically uses the context from your active window, so you don't need to provide extensive background information. Simply state your goal, such as "Make this more professional" or "Summarize the text above."
Add Screenshot Context
Yoink AI automatically includes a screenshot whenever there are less than 40 words in the underlying text field. Toggle ⌘ S
to include or exclude the screenshot
For tasks that require visual information, you can include a screenshot of your window by toggling it with ⌘ S
. This screenshot is taken when Yoink AI is started.
This is useful to write about images, charts, and application interfaces, or to write responses to content that is not in the current text field, such as X posts and Linear tickets.
Add Documents from Library
Documents are frequently re-used pieces of information for Yoink AI to reference.
Attach documents from your Documents Library by pressing ⌘ D
after starting Yoink AI. This is useful for providing specific knowledge, data, or guides for Yoink AI to reference when generating a response. You can think of this as an easily referenced Wiki for Yoink AI
Add Voices for Personalization
Voices are specific output styles for Yoink AI to follow when writing.
Select a personalized Voice by pressing ⌘ F
after starting Yoink AI. This ensures the output matches your desired writing style, whether it's for a professional email or a casual social media post.
You may select multiple voices. However, if there is a direct clash in Voice instructions, Yoink AI will decide based on the context provided your most likely intent.
Difference between Documents and Voice
Think of the difference in terms of how versus what. Documents from your Library provide Yoink AI with substance and knowledge by giving it specific information to reference, like a project brief or data sheet. Voices shape the output's personality and tone by ensuring the writing sounds the way you want. Use Documents to inform, and Voices to personalize.
